Plant-based London dining: choose a restaurant that fits the day
A useful plant-based meal plan starts with where you will actually be. Travelling across London for a restaurant can be worthwhile, but an option near the day’s activities often makes a better visit than a list of distant “must-eats”.
Best for: a mixed group planning a vegan meal. Choose by: location, meal time and access. Check separately: allergies, special ingredients and table availability.
Soho: a central meal anchor
Mildreds’ current Soho page identifies its flagship at 45 Lexington Street, with plant-based food and menus including breakfast, main meals, pre-theatre choices and children’s food. The useful feature is the range of meal formats in a central location, not a claim that every format is served at every hour.
Compare the relevant menu and booking slot with your day. A pre-theatre product needs to fit the performance time, while breakfast or brunch can become the day’s main meal. Confirm the current serving window instead of assuming a general opening time covers every menu.
A Soho meal can follow the Carnaby route or a short neighbourhood walk. Keep the walk modest if you already have a timed performance or museum booking.
Camden: make the branch part of the route
The current Mildreds Camden page places the restaurant at 9 Jamestown Road and lists step-free access, outdoor seating and a children’s menu. Its hours show weekend brunch starting earlier than ordinary weekday opening. Check the day-specific information before arriving for an early meal.
Camden works well when you want one seated meal rather than eating every stop at the market. Visit the shops first or afterwards, but avoid carrying an entire shopping load through the meal if there is an easier order to the day.

A plant-based menu is not an allergy certificate
Vegan food can still contain nuts, sesame, wheat, soy and other allergens. Read the operator’s allergen information and discuss your requirements directly. Ingredients and cross-contact arrangements matter more than a general plant-based label.
A group containing both vegan diners and people with allergies should choose a venue that can answer the actual questions. Do not assume a vegan restaurant can safely remove every ingredient or accommodate every severe allergy.
What to compare on the menu
Look at whether you want small shared plates, one main each or a set experience. Sharing several dishes can be enjoyable, but check portions and the combined cost. Drinks, desserts and service charge can make a headline main-course price a poor estimate of the final bill.
If children are attending, check whether their menu and seating work for the intended time. If a member of the group avoids onion or garlic, read the specifically relevant menu where offered and discuss limitations. A listed alternative is a starting point for a conversation.
Reservations and a fallback
Book if the meal anchors a tight schedule. Check cancellation or card-guarantee terms before confirming. If you prefer to walk in, agree how long the group is prepared to wait and choose a nearby second option in advance.
Do not move to a distant branch merely because it has availability without calculating travel time. A table that starts soon is not useful if you cannot reach it comfortably. Use the exact branch name in the booking and directions.
Build one balanced day
For Soho, pair a meal with a small shopping or theatre plan. For Camden, use the neighbourhood guide and leave time to explore before returning. A restaurant visit is a natural part of the day, not a reason to repeat the same destination across several categories.
