London in October 2026: a current shortlist, with dates that matter

October planning needs dates, not a recycled list of annual events. This shortlist is checked on 6 October 2026 and distinguishes activities still ahead from events that have already passed or are not taking place this year.

Use for: choosing one main event and a nearby alternative. Recheck: ticket availability, the exact venue and any age or access conditions. Review deadline: after 31 October, use this as an archive rather than a current-events promise.

Film: BFI London Film Festival

The LondonFound BFI London Film Festival guide covers the current 2026 programme and booking approach. Choose an actual screening and venue before planning dinner or travel. Festival branding does not mean every film plays at the same building.

Look for a film and time that suit you rather than buying a screening purely because it is a premiere. Check any certification, subtitles and advertised running time. A sold-out listing is not a reason to buy from an unverified ticket source.

Family: a free Diwali activity day in Hoxton

Museum of the Home lists Light and Movement: Diwali Family Day for Tuesday 27 October 2026, with activities from 10am–12pm and 1–3pm. It is free; walk-ups are welcome and booking helps the museum plan, although activities may reach capacity.

The programme includes dance and creative making in the lead-up to Diwali. It is a particular museum event, not a claim that Diwali itself falls on 27 October or that every London celebration shares that date. Leave time for an ordinary museum visit and a break.

Half-term: distinguish two V&A venues

Young V&A’s half-term programme starts on 24 October, while the South Kensington V&A programme opens on 26 October. These are different museums in different parts of London. Use our half-term comparison to choose one rather than trying to combine them casually.

General free activity listings and separately ticketed workshops have different conditions. Check the individual event rather than assuming everything under a festival banner is free or unbooked.

Dining: London Restaurant Festival

The operator’s current site identifies an October 2026 autumn edition, with festival menus and separately bookable experiences. Some series are Amex-exclusive, so check eligibility before treating them as open-to-all restaurant deals.

Use the festival planning guide to distinguish a menu offer from a timed event. Compare the total bill and the meal you actually want, not only a headline saving.

Seasonal evening: Kew

For a ticketed seasonal outing, read the Halloween at Kew guide and the operator’s current date and availability information. Check suitability for your group and the return route before choosing a late entry slot.

An evening outdoor experience needs weather-appropriate clothing and a realistic journey home. Do not add a full daytime museum itinerary merely to fill the hours before the event.

What not to put in this October’s calendar

London Cocktail Week’s own current information states that it is taking a break in 2026 and moving the festival to March 2027. It should not be presented as an October 2026 event. Likewise, the Museum of the Home’s 3–4 October ceramics event has already passed by this guide’s check date.

When browsing other listings, compare the event year and actual date rather than the date a page was refreshed. Old Christmas and annual-festival pages can still appear prominently in searches.

Build a realistic day

Choose one booked anchor, a nearby meal and an optional walk. Keep a weather fallback and enough time for entry checks. Save the official confirmation; a calendar note or social post is not a ticket.
